GPS volunteer opportunities

Y.E.S Program Youth Mentor  Guided Pathways – Support for Youth and Families (GPS) is currently recruiting young adults ages 18 to 35 to be training for our Youth Empower Support (Y.E.S.) program. Y.E.S empowers and supports youth and young adults ages 11 to 24 struggling with behavioral, emotional, mental health and/or substance abuse challenges. Y.E.S is dedicated to supporting the youth we serve in exploring, identifying and underpinning of the struggles they may be experiencing. We strive with excellence on building up our youth and young adults strengths by being strength focused as well as giving and receiving peer support to achieve wellness, recovery and resiliency. This person brings an understanding of the difficulties that youth may be having and can guide them through life challenges. Minorities and LTGBQ young adults ages 18-30 are strongly encouraged to apply.

Youth Mentor  brings an understanding of the difficulties that youth may be having and can guide them through life challenges. The mentor will meet one-on-one with his/her mentee to develop a relationship and engage the mentee in healthy, new experiences. The Youth Mentor works with a Parent Partner in the office to provide the family with support for the parent and child.

Volunteers will help with everyday business tasks such as filing, updating spreadsheets, research on the internet, providing support for meeting and events, or with special projects. Database Development Volunteers  help with the process of modifying and expanding the database to include additional capabilities related to keeping track of how we are serving our families in other service areas (e.g., 1-on-1 Parent Partner Support, Parent Classes, and Family Social Events – in addition to Resources Information and Referral).

Volunteer Event Coordinators help with the events we put on throughout the year. This volunteer will assist with the planning, organizing, coordinating, promoting, facilitating, and support of a special event such as a quarterly Family Social, annual Volunteer Recognition Party, or Summer Picnic. Info & Referral Line Volunteer will be responsible for screening callers to determine the most appropriate initial course of action given the callers needs and the available resources within the community. The Info & Referral Volunteer must be able to build rapport with callers, elicit relevant information, effectively communicate via phone, gather and record data, accurately assess callers’ needs and appropriately motivate callers to follow through with referrals. This position will not be available until late 2014.
